Tough to hit golf shot without proper golf instructions

How does a beginner golfer set out to learn the basics of golf?  What are the general golf instructions to learning the game of golf?

Many beginner golfers struggle with how to learn the game of golf and where and with whom to receive basic golf instructions.  Here is a golf instructions primer the beginner golf should follow to accelerate learning the game.

1.) Get a General Feel for the Game

First of all, the beginner golfer should get a general feel for the game, its history and a general understanding of the golf swing fundamentals. To do this, the beginner golfer should start with a general beginner golf instructions book such as “Golf for Dummies” or even Ben Hogan’s “Five Lessons” golf book.  These golf instructions books will provide an overall framework for the beginner to understand golf instructions basics.  With respect to golf instructions, focus on the following fundamentals which are the foundation of a solid golf swing:

• The Grip
• Golf Swing Posture and Stance
• Weight Distribution
• Backswing
• Downswing
• Impact
• Follow-Through
• Difference Between “Irons” and “Woods”
• Difference Between “Long Game” and “Short Game”

2.) Take Golf Lessons

After getting a general understanding of the game, it is highly recommended you take beginner golf instructions from a qualified PGA teaching professional.  To find a good PGA golf instructor, talk to your friends or go to a reputable course and get recommendations.  At the beginning, sign up for one or two initial lessons to see if gauge personality fit.  Once you feel comfortable with your pro and his or her golf instructions style, feel free to sign up for a package of lessons across the various phases of the golf game.

3.) Play, Practice Regularly and Keep Track of Your Progress

Once you get a handle of the golf basics, get out and play and be very, very patient with your progress!  One of the main reasons beginner golfers quit playing golf is because they have too high expectations on their progress and quit out of frustration.  Don’t.  Golf is a fantastic sport you can play the rest of your life.  To learn the game, make sure you keep your ego in check, play, track your progress and work on the practice range (and with your PGA pro) regularly to strengthen your game.

Classic Golf Shoes Are Always In Style

We’re all about looking hip on the course. We love golf shoes with an unconventional look, a devil-may-care attitude, and a style borrowed from the streets.

But let’s face it: Tradition has its place, especially in golf. Imagine Bobby Jones or Ben Hogan in a pair of low-profile, flat-bottomed, faux-leather golf shoes or, gasp, golf sandals. Can’t see it, can you?

There’s a reason classics become classics.

A pair of calfskin kicks may set you back a bit, but every avid golfer should own a pair of shoes that can be comfortably worn in the stuffiest of settings – even if they do require the occasional buff and shine.

Today, most manufacturers focus strictly on athletic-styled golf shoes. Fortunately, a few understand the enduring appeal of traditional patterns like the saddle oxford. While hewing closely to convention, these brands have updated their top-of-the-line models with subtle, modern touches.

So we tip our Kangol cap to FootJoy, ECCO and Callaway for carrying the traditional golf shoe torch. Here’s a quick guide to their current offerings:

FootJoy: FJ Icon (Traditional Line)
MSRP: $250

A nod to FootJoy’s rich history, the FJ Icon line is segmented into Traditional, Fashion and Contemporary styles. The Traditional upper blends full-grain leather with calfskin detailing; five snazzy color/style combos are available.

The FJ Icon abounds with 21st-century features, including a Memory Foam tongue and collar, EVA midsole, TPU outsole and 2-year waterproof warranty.

The Traditional FJ Icon is a favorite of tour pros including Angel Cabrera, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and the resurgent Adam Scott, who had the good taste to wear them in Hogan Country while winning the Valero Texas Open.

ECCO: World Class GTX
MSRP: $450

ECCO made a big splash at the Masters when Fred Couples contended in the company’s decidedly informal Street Premiere model. But ECCO is better known for its sumptuous, upscale offerings like the World Class GTX.

What appears to be a standard-issue saddle shoe is anything but in ECCO’s hands. The World Class GTX’s embossed leather uppers are lined with Gore-Tex for superior waterproofing while the insole features a removable, vegetable-tanned leather liner. ECCO prides itself on “out-of-the-box” comfort, meaning break-in time is next to nothing.

Callaway: Tour Brogue
MSRP: $320

These solid-colored, elongated wingtip shoes are notable for sleek, Euro-inspired styling. Available in solid black or dark brown, the Tour Brogue pairs a burnished, full-grain leather upper with comfort-enhancing touches like a TPU outsole and cushioned footbed.

Callaway’s Tour Brogue offers a 30-day comfort guarantee and 2-year waterproof warranty.

My Driver Swing

Hello. My name is Susan and I’m currently on my highschool’s Varsity Golf team. This video was taken on Thursday, June 18, 2009 @ the Pine Trace driving range. I’m looking forward to improving my game this summer. Please help me do so my leaving comments about my swing. The first two hits are made by a Ben Hogan 9.5 Degree Driver. My dad actually owns this club, but I stole it from him. I tend to hit further with a men’s driver, but I am more inconsistent with it. So recently, my dad bought me a Taylormade Lady’s Burner 10 degree. However, I’m not able to get the ball nearly as close to the Ben Hogan Driver. (The last 2 shots are with the Taylormade) Please comment or rate or comment & rate ;)
