TIGER SUCKS!!! NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BENS SWING!!!
It says a lot about where the modern game has gone when this video is called ‘Ben Hogan 3 Wood Slow Motion’….. he’s hitting a driver, and it’s on a tee. Great video, though!
this is a driver, not a 3 wood. and tiger nowhere close to hogan. hogan’s hips operated vastly differently than tiger’s. and snead and hogan dont have one plane swings – the only true one plane swing was moe norman, at least from a physics definition. and on lag, no one who is a good to great ball striker has ever tried to “lag” the club – would be like asking joe montana to lag his arm/wrist more – totally crazy. that is simply the result of great motion – TGM stuff has killed more pros.

Can you view my swing at tell me what I am please as I always thought I was too flat compared to the pros when I see Hogan’s swing I am thinking maybe my swing isn’t that bad because I always thought the hands had to be over the head and mine was completly wrong I keep trying to change it to be more upright but maybe i am heading in the wrong direction
@elnocho3 If the arms work more up in their swing then the swing plane will be upright in a two plane type swing eg. Nicklaus, Scott Hoch.
I said true to an extent because Matt Kuchar and Ernie els are both about 6 foot 4 but their differing setups and arm swings put them in one plane and two plane boxes respectively.
@patricktorin – Very true to an extent. Body type and height does have an impact on the natural tendencies on how to set up to a golf ball, this in turn dictates swing plane. However, the biggest influence is how the arms work in the swing- this dictates what swing plane someone has. If the arms work in a more connected manner (around the body) then their swing will be flatter and more likely to be a one plane swing eg. Hogan.
@eddiebutt1 Hogan and Snead are examples of a one plane golf swing. This means at the top of the backswing their left arm is parrallel to their shoulder plane. What you are referring to with ‘over their heads’ is a two plane golf swing, where the arms are on a higher plane to their shoulders. Neither is better, both types of swings have been used to win multiple major championships.
He’s not flat or upright, he is in plane for his stature and body type. He’s 5′ 8″ with long arms so he appears to swing on a “flat” plane vs. someone like Jack who is 5′ 11″ with shorter arms and appears to swing “upright”. A swing plane is the same for all players however, body type and stature dictate whether the plane is “flat” or “upright”. In Hogan’s case he’s right on plane according to his pane of glass example in his book. What an amazing swing.
is his club flat at the back I notice most of the pros have theirs over their heads can someone please explain
For a long time instructors taught students to have the feeling you were “sitting” on a bar stool. I always believed we should have been teaching people to feel as though you were “leaning” back on a stool. The last thing you would ever want to do is sit in golf. Sitting will cause the golf club to swing too level to the ground in the downswing, and you will have a tendency to hit the ground behind the golf ball. w w w (dot) golferbreak80 (dot) c0m
Beautiful!
great turn, great lag, and full release. i could watch this all day.
Tiger has basically tried to mimick hogans down swing and follow through. Have you taken a notice on how tiger’s right arm in his practice swings are exagerrated? Just like hogan did in his full swing
you mean TW’s is sickly close to his.
what a great video. i love how his shoulder turn initiates his hip turn on the backswing. i think it allows for a bigger shoulder turn. his down and through swing are sickly close to TW’s
